CRITERIA FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT OFFICER 


Purpose: To establish and maintain capacity for the NIF to identify, develop, resource and evaluate the development and program needs/priorities of the fraternity throughout its various regions.
Duties: The Regional Development Officer will be charged the following duties:

Liaison with Fraternity Leadership (Regional, State, Local) concerning programmatic and service needs/priorities
Cultivate and manage relationships with corporate and foundation resources throughout the assigned region(s)
Maintain current contact, asset, program, deadline and priority information of the formal and informal investment/giving resources in the assigned region(s)
Identify and align needs/priorities of programs and resource opportunities
Provide training, technical assistance and other support to the fraternity in accessing and leveraging NIF products, services and resources
Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of NIF engagement within the assigned region(s)
Market the value proposition of the NIF throughout the assigned region(s)


Report: NIF Vice Chair (Regional Development Officer Committee)

Time Investment – 3 Hours/Month
Monthly Team conference call (1.0 Hours)
Review of current trends/resources (.75 Hours)
Regional Leadership engagement/relationship building (1.25 Hours)

Authority, Support, Resources:
Authority – Represent the interests, priorities and programs of the NIF as the Principal Agent in the assigned region(s)

Support – NIF Vice Chair shall provide regular training, technical assistance, direction and guidance via monthly team meetings, one-on-one mentoring and annual reviews. 

Resources - NIF Vice Chair shall provide digital and printed marketing and collateral material support, travel reimbursement (as budgeted), 

Regional Development Officer (RDO) SOP


1. The RDO regularly monitors trends in philanthropy and analyzes the diversity of funding opportunities in the assigned region. The RDO will accomplish this task by:

- Subscribing to foundation and corporate giving program newsletters.
- Maintaining a current list of resources and auditing such lists on a quarterly basis.
- Keep a current version of Quality of Life Plans or Community Needs Assessments for the assigned region(s)
- Review and report regarding changes in the “market place.” Is the organization dependent upon a limited number of income sources? Do your funding sources reflect changes in the "market place"?

2. The RDO will conduct an annual review of written strategic plans (NIF, Regional, State, Local) and screens for alignment, trends and changes. The RDO will solicit these plans (where available) no later than fourteen (14) calendar days following the Spring Regional Meeting of the assigned region(s). RDO will provide a written report to the NIF Vice Chair no later than thirty (30) calendar days prior to July 1 of each year.

3. The RDO supports a common organizational vision has been created to build consensus for mission and programs.

4. The RDO will establish a relationship building committee charged with developing,
evaluating and monitoring resource development policies, practices, and goals for the assigned region(s). This committee shall meet at least twice/year. The RDO will conform to the established resource development framework/process.

5. The RDO will submit all budget requests to the NIF Vice Chair on a Quarterly Basis and will provide an annual budget request by September 1 of each year. 

6. The RDO will ensure that all appropriate entities (NIF Vice Chair, committee members, regional, state and local membership, staff and volunteers all participate in the total fundraising process, including the identification of funding needs, cultivation, solicitation, donor "upgrades" and recognition. RDO will work with the NIF Vice Chair to ensure specific resource development responsibilities are communicated and understood.
